Bringing Proven Leadership and Results to Fresno County

A Vision for
Excellence in Education

As a dedicated advocate for education and a leader with a proven track record, I am honored to announce my candidacy for Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. This is not just a campaign—it’s a commitment to ensuring every child, educator, and family in our community thrives through accessible, high-quality education.

When we speak about RESULTS, we are
aiming for higher educational outcomes
for our students.

Proven Leadership
You Can Trust

Throughout my career, I have consistently delivered impactful results. From driving innovative programs to improving student outcomes, my leadership has been rooted in collaboration, accountability, and a deep understanding of the diverse needs of our community. My experience has taught me that successful schools are built on strong partnerships—between educators, families, and local stakeholders.

Results That Matter

As a collaborative leader, whether as a school site leader or as a District Superintendent, I fostered a culture of teamwork and trust that encouraged employees to hold themselves accountable for providing exceptional service to the students in their care. This shared sense of responsibility not only strengthened our collective mission but also empowered every individual to contribute meaningfully to the success of our schools and the well-being of our community.

As your next Superintendent
of Schools, I intend to prioritize the following 3 GOALS:

Goals

GOAL #1: 3rd Grade Literacy

FACT: In Fresno County, 60% of third graders on average are not meeting reading standards. That means that in a class of 25 students, 15 are not meeting literacy standards.

Why Reading Matters

Reading is not merely a skill—it is the foundation upon which all other academic competencies are built, including mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking. By empowering students to have strong literacy skills from an early age, we will pave the way for success in every academic discipline and prepare them to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

How reading confidence affects our students

A focus on reading will not only elevate our county’s literacy rates but it will also allow us to tackle a variety of interconnected challenges faced by students.

  • When our children acquire strong reading skills, it will nurture their self-esteem and confidence, providing them with the tools to express themselves effectively and navigate their academic journeys with assurance.

  • Furthermore, by improving literacy, we can alleviate anxiety and frustration often stemming from academic struggles, fostering a more positive school environment.

  • Equipped with better reading proficiency, our students will more likely engage in classroom activities, exhibit better behavior, and form stronger connections with peers and teachers.

My response

As part of my educational agenda, I will develop a comprehensive multi-year literacy plan in collaboration with our educational team to address this priority effectively. I am witnessing an exciting return to the “Back to Basics” science of reading approach that I successfully used for twenty years in my own classrooms. I hope to champion this and other proven methods in the development of our county's plan to achieve significant results for the students in our schools.

With this plan, we will be taking a foundational step toward enabling Fresno County’s youth to flourish both academically and personally.

GOAL #2: Partner with Parents
and Families!

Why is this important in education?

Parents play an essential role as the first and primary educators in their children's critical early years. As a parent myself, I appreciated having access to information that helped me support my children at school. At the same time, as a teacher and administrator, I saw the impact of strong school to home relationships. In short, our students achieve higher outcomes when they are supported by school and family communities sharing a common vision.

What I know works…

  • Providing parents with the necessary support and knowledge around early childhood educational milestones

  • Engaging parents in opportunities to learn how to help their children navigate social, emotional and academic challenges as they matriculate through the system

  • Partnering with local parenting groups such as Fresno State's Parent University to create modules focused on topics of interest

  • Fostering relationships with local community groups to help support family to school connections

What’s my plan?

I aim to collaborate with District leaders and community organizations specializing in parent engagement programs to help parents actively engage in their children's education.

If we partner with parents and families to support their children, we will be able to strengthen the bridge between home and school, ensuring a more cohesive and collaborative approach to education.

GOAL #3: Let's Increase our Return
on Investment in Education

What I know…

Fresno County receives significant federal and state dollars for TK-12 education totaling in the billions. Yet, our students continue to struggle, with 56% not meeting standards in English Language Arts and 68% not meeting standards in Math in 2023-24.

Why is this?

Simply put, our current approach isn’t working. My experiences in both Clovis and Central Unified have taught me that we must have the courage to change course when our students are not achieving the results they deserve.

The answer?

There are teachers all over our county whose students are achieving great results! We need to work together to collaborate on systems and programs that are yielding positive outcomes on a consistent basis. Only through listening to each other, supporting our teachers, and identifying the most effective programs and methodologies, will we begin to move the needle on student achievement.

Therefore in Fresno County, I aim to work alongside districts to explore proven approaches so that our significant investment in education returns the results we all need for our kids.

My Pledge to
Fresno County

The Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools

Leadership and Support for
Educational Excellence

As your next Superintendent of Schools, I would not be “the boss of” the 31 School District Superintendents. Each elected School Board independently collaborates with their own district on their unique vision. However, I will be the “Listener-in-Chief,” the “Supporter-in-Chief,” and most of all the “Inspirer-in-Chief” for the entire county. Together we can accomplish significant results for the students of Fresno County, where my role is to champion and unify our District Superintendents into a larger countywide vision of success.

I believe that I have the drive, the passion, the experience, and most of all the capacity to build meaningful relationships to achieve the results our kids desperately need.

As your next Superintendent of Schools, I will be engaged in the following RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborative Leadership for Transformative Change

Imagine a future where every school district in Fresno County operates with systems designed to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

Collaboration is key to achieving our vision. I aim to work hand-in-hand with educators, parents, and community stakeholders to build systems that empower both students and teachers. By leveraging the lessons learned in Clovis and Central, we can pioneer solutions that uplift every district in the county. Whether it’s tapping into community support, optimizing resources, or fostering innovation, my approach is rooted in practical, results-oriented leadership that makes a difference where it matters most—in the classroom.
